About Us
The Institute for Women's Empowerment (IFWE) was established in February 2004 by its Founder, Dr. Claudia Curry. It is an outgrowth of a doctoral practicum research study conducted by Dr. Curry in spring 2004 that examined, The Impact of A Pilot Women's Empowerment Program on Female Students enrolled at an inner-city community college. The Program employed a curriculum that reflected on current issues and themes that focus on empowerment.
IFWE's primary goal is to equip women with the tools to empower themselves and encourage the use of tools to prioritize options, make appropriate life choices, and enhance all aspects of their lives.
Our mission is to identify and meet the development needs specific to women from diverse economic, educational, social and professional backgrounds.
IFWE supports the personal, social, academic and leadership development of women from diverse communities, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds representing the tri-state and beyond. This organization emerged as the result of a growing demand for programs and services designed to meet the developmental needs of women who are struggling with issues that affect their ability to become self-empowered.

Participant Feedback
"I have to admit, to enroll in such a program, you enroll for selfish reasons. You do not enroll to empower other folks. You enroll to empower yourself. That was my main reason, When I first walked in, I wasn't thinking about trying to empower anybody else in the room. I wasn't thinking about trying to disempower anybody."

"Empowerment is like salvation. It's personal. When you say that we all have the same opportunity ... we've all been given the same 110% effort from the development of the program ... we were given the same tools. ... So, I think that empowerment was offered as a tool. Whether or not we take it or use it is something different."

"What we need to do is to have that constant encouragement because our environment is constantly telling us what we can't do or showing all [of] the negative aspects. And now we have something positive telling us what we can do ... that we are powerful, that we can achieve our goals."
